En el CES 2025, Sony Group Corporation reveló que lanzará una nueva aplicación de manga digital como parte de su servicio premium Crunchyroll. La aplicación, que se llamará Crunchyroll Manga, estará disponible de forma independiente para iOS y Android a finales de 2025, y se tiene previsto ofrecer soporte para navegadores web en el futuro.
«Crunchyroll Manga será una plataforma de manga en línea de primera categoría, que incluirá catálogos de importantes editores, brindando a los fanáticos acceso sin precedentes a obras que inspiran los animes que tanto amamos», declaró Rahul Purini, presidente de Crunchyroll, en un comunicado. «A medida que consolidamos alianzas en este nuevo y emocionante proyecto, nuestro objetivo es agregar más valor a la membresía de Crunchyroll, complementando nuestra extensa biblioteca de anime, el Crunchyroll Game Vault y una variada oferta de productos en la Crunchyroll Store».
Purini también mencionó que, según investigaciones, casi el 70% de los fanáticos del anime leen manga digital al menos una vez al mes, lo que resalta la enorme demanda de este formato. «Crunchyroll Manga no solo atenderá este creciente interés, sino que también impulsará la popularidad global del anime y el manga», concluyó.
