En una entrevista con MTV, el director Matt Reeves habló sobre el debate actual acerca de si The Batman debería formar parte o no del DCU. Aunque James Gunn ha afirmado en varias ocasiones que ambas franquicias son universos separados, el público sigue cuestionándose sobre la veracidad de esta declaración.
Matt Reeves, en un intento por destacar las palabras de Gunn, adoptó un enfoque más cauteloso, expresando dudas y dejando abierta la posibilidad al afirmar que “todo depende de si tiene sentido o no”. Sin embargo, el director aclaró que su enfoque está en desarrollar y consolidar este universo de The Batman, mencionando:
“Todo se reduce a si tiene sentido o no. Lo bueno es que tengo una historia que quería contar, que llamamos Epic Crime Saga, y esa es la base de lo que estamos creando. Ha sido fundamental para mí poder plasmarla. DC Studios ha sido muy receptivo y nos está apoyando en esto. Lo que sucederá en el futuro no puedo decirlo con certeza. Ahora mismo, mi mente está completamente enfocada en comenzar a rodar The Batman: Parte 2 y hacer algo realmente especial, que es lo más importante para mí”.
Asimismo, Reeves aprovechó para desmentir los rumores que indicaban que Mr. Freeze sería el villano principal de la secuela:
“No puedo decir mucho, pero sí, necesitamos un gran villano. Espero que sea sorprendente. La historia de esta secuela será una continuación, pero también algo completamente diferente. Revelará una faceta distinta de Rob, será realmente genial”.
The Batman: Parte 2 está prevista para estrenarse el 1 de octubre de 2027 en los cines. La primera parte está disponible en el catálogo de Max.
